Two prototype solid-state phased array systems concepts developed for the solar power satellite (SPS) are described. In both concepts, the beam was centered on the rectenna by means of phase conjugation of a pilot signal emanating from the ground. Also discussed are results of solid state studies

    Solid state systems concepts

Two prototype solid state phased array systems concepts for potential use in the Solar Power Satellite are described; the end-mounted and the sandwich systems. In both concepts, the beam is centered on the rectenna by means of phase conjugation of a pilot signal emanating from the ground. In the end-mounted system 36-watt amplifiers are mounted on the ground-plane, whereas in the sandwich the amplifiers are elevated to the dipoles, and their waste heat is dissipated by beryllium oxide discs. The feed lines are underneath the ground-plane, and a coaxial transmission line is carried all the way to the amplifier input. Also discussed is solid state amplifier development

Price Dynamics in International Wheat Markets

    Get PDF
Vector autoregressions are used to evaluate dynamic relationships among prices in six important international wheat markets. The effects of freight rates and exchange rates are also considered. The results indicate that Canada is the dominant market, supporting views that Canada is an oligopolistic price leader.international trade, vector autoregressions, wheat markets, International Relations/Trade,

    REGIONAL FED CATTLE PRICE DYNAMICS

    Get PDF
The lead-lag relationships present in the regional price discovery process are important indicators of market performance. Differences across markets in the speed of adjustment to evolving information may have implications for pricing efficiency within these markets. This study estimates intertemporal price relationships among 11 regional slaughter cattle markets. Larger volume markets, located in the major cattle feeding regions, were the dominant price discovery locations. Price adjustments across markets were complete in one to two weeks in the large volume markets located relatively close to each other and in two to three weeks in the more remote, smaller volume markets.Demand and Price Analysis, Livestock Production/Industries,

Fluctuating pressures in flow fields of jets

The powered lift configurations under present development for STOL aircraft are the externally blown flap (EBF), involving direct jet impingement on the aircraft flaps, and the upper surface blown (USB), where the jet flow is attached on the upper surface of the wing and directed downwards. Towards the goal of developing scaling laws to predict unsteady loads imposed on the structural components of these STOL aircraft from small model tests, the near field fluctuating pressure behavior for the simplified cases of a round free cold jet and the same jet impinging on a flat plate was investigated. Examples are given of coherences, phase lags (giving convection velocities), and overall fluctuating pressure levels measured. The fluctuating pressure levels measured on the flat plate are compared to surface fluctuating pressure levels measured on full-scale powered-lift configuration models

    Noninteracting Fermions in infinite dimensions

Usually, we study the statistical behaviours of noninteracting Fermions in finite (mainly two and three) dimensions. For a fixed number of fermions, the average energy per fermion is calculated in two and in three dimensions and it becomes equal to 50 and 60 per cent of the fermi energy respectively. However, in the higher dimensions this percentage increases as the dimensionality increases and in infinite dimensions it becomes 100 per cent. This is an intersting result, at least pedagogically. Which implies all fermions are moving with Fermi momentum. This result is not yet discussed in standard text books of quantum statistics. In this paper, this fact is discussed and explained. I hope, this article will be helpful for graduate students to study the behaviours of free fermions in generalised dimensionality.Comment: To appear in European Journal of Physics (2010

    Copper(II)- and gold(III)-mediated cyclization of a thiourea to a substituted 2-aminobenzothiazole

    Get PDF
Benzothiazole derivatives are a class of privileged molecules due to their biological activity and pharmaceutical applications. One route to these molecules is via intramolecular cyclization of thioureas to form substituted 2-aminobenzothiazoles, but this often requires harsh conditions or employs expensive metal catalysts. Herein, the copper(II)- and gold(III)-mediated cyclizations of thioureas to substituted 2-aminobenzothiazoles are reported. The single-crystal X-ray structures of the thiourea N-(3-methoxyphenyl)-N\u27- (pyridin-2-yl)thiourea, C13H13N3OS, and the intermediate metal complexes aquabis[5-methoxy-N-(pyridin-2-yl-κN)-1,3-benzothiazol-2-amine-κN3]copper(II) dinitrate, [Cu(C13H11N3OS)2(H2O)](NO3)2, and bis{2-[(5-methoxy-1,3-benzothiazol- 2-yl)amino]pyridin-1-ium} dichloridogold(I) chloride monohydrate, (C13H12N3OS)2[AuCl2]Cl⋅H2O, are reported. The copper complex exhibits a distorted trigonal–bipyramidal geometry, with direct metal-to-benzothiazoleligand coordination, while the gold complex is a salt containing the protonated uncoordinated benzothiazole, and offers evidence that metal reduction (in this case, AuIII to AuI) is required for the cyclization to proceed. As such, this study provides further mechanistic insight into the role of the metal cations in these transformations

Energies of Quantum QED Flux Tubes

In this talk I present recent studies on vacuum polarization energies and energy densities induced by QED flux tubes. I focus on comparing three and four dimensional scenarios and the discussion of various approximation schemes in view of the exact treatment.Comment: 9 pages latex, Talk presented at the QFEXT 05 workshop in Barcelona, Sept. 2005. Experimental studies of Strong Electroweak Symmetry Breaking in gauge boson scattering and three gauge boson production

If no light Higgs boson exist, the interaction among the gauge bosons becomes strong at high energies (~1TeV). The effects of strong electroweak symmetry breaking (SEWSB) could manifest themselves as anomalous couplings before they give rise to new physical states, thus measurement of all couplings and their possible deviation from Standard Model (SM) values could give valuable information for understanding the true nature of symmetry breaking sector. Here we present a detailed study of the measurement of quartic gauge couplings in weak boson scattering processes and a possibility for same measurement in triple weak boson production. Expected limits on the parameters alpha_4 alpha_5,alpha_6, alpha_7 and alpha_10 in electroweak chiral Lagrangian are given.Comment: talk presented at LCWS05, Stanford, USA, March 200
